It’s Spring! Time to Shed That Winter Weight!
•Detoxify your body with a simple liver cleanse. Squeeze the juice from ¼ of a lemon into 8 oz. of water 3-4 times per week. This will help discharge your liver of toxins – including chemicals and pesticides (from your food and the environment).

•Eat more spring vegetables! I offer private and group healthy cooking lessons; learn to make delicious meals centered around whole grains, beans, and seasonal veggies! Or, check out Christine Waltermeyer's Natural Cooking School in Princeton, NJ (www.naturalkitchenschool.com)

•Flax is a wonderful food, loaded with fiber, nutrients, and omega 3's. Adding ground flax seeds to your food is an important addition to your diet if you have digestive issues or are trying to lose weight; the fiber in the flax will not only help you poop but also stay full for a longer period of time! *If you would like to read more about flax visit my Weight Loss Blog at www.GetHealthyWithCarol.blogspot.com

Another good reason to purchase local produce:
All fruit and veggies imported into the US must be irradiated…
Irradiation exponentially increases free radical populations. Free radicals lead to premature aging (that includes wrinkles and gray hair!) and degenerative diseases.

Eat Fat, Stay Thin!
•If you eat fat, you will get full on less food and in less time than if you didn’t eat fat. It keeps you full for a longer period of time and is food for your brain; it’s satisfying. When you are more satisfied with what you eat, you eat less and are less prone to snacking later on.

•But… it is important you are eating the right kinds of fat. Most oils we consume and purchase are refined (they have no nutrients and no enzymes so they are almost impossible to digest; they are bleached and deodorized with chemicals; the heat used in the refining process damages the molecules in such a way that many studies liken refined oils to plastic.).
For the healthiest oils: choose one that lists itself as unrefined.

•And… unless it’s a mainly saturated fat (such as coconut oil), you must use your oil within 12 weeks of opening (wait longer and the free radicals will turn it rancid).
